It seems so obvious that children are impacted by immigration enforcement action. On a daily basis we hear of real abuses happening to children who are trying to enter the U.S. with or without families. There are children born here, who are U.S. citizens who are also suffering when a parent faces deportation. Last week I went to court in Portland for Sergio and his family. His 12 year old daughter and 14 year old son were in court to support their dad, a man who has lived in the U.S. for over 17 years. His court case has been going on for nearly 4 years. Not surprisingly his children – like 500,000 other in the U.S. — have had significant emotional trauma as they worry about whether their family will stay together. This report discusses the ramifications of deportation and detention on children born in the U.S.
